Building your first course
This is the heart of Edmingle. In this article you'll create a course, add content, structure it into lessons, and (optionally) set up batches, live classes, and a quiz. By the end you'll have a course ready to publish and sell.
Set aside about 30 minutes. You can always come back and add more later, the goal now is to get one complete course live.
Before you start
Have these ready:
A course title and a short description.
At least one piece of content: a video, PDF, or slide deck. (Even a single lesson is enough to publish.)
A thumbnail image for the course. [Verify: recommended size, e.g. 1280×720px.]
1. Create the course
Go to Courses in the main menu.
Select [Verify: Create course / Add new / + New].
Enter the course title.
Choose the course type if prompted:
Self-paced: learners go through content on their own schedule.
Live / instructor-led: built around scheduled live classes.
Blended: a mix of both.
Select Create / Continue. This opens the course editor.
2. Add course details
In the course editor, fill in the basics learners will see:
Description: what the course covers and who it's for. Write for the buyer.
Thumbnail / cover image: upload your image.
Category / tags: helps learners find it on your site. [Verify: availability.]
Language and level: e.g. Beginner, English. [Verify: fields available.]
Select Save.
3. Structure your content
Edmingle organizes courses into a simple hierarchy. [Verify: exact terms, commonly Sections/Chapters → Lessons/Topics.]
Sections (or chapters) group related material.
Lessons (or topics) are the individual pieces of content inside each section.
To build it:
In the course editor, select [Verify: Add section / Add chapter].
Name the section (e.g. "Module 1: Fundamentals").
Inside the section, select [Verify: Add lesson / Add content].
Choose the content type:
Video: upload a file or paste a hosted link (e.g. YouTube/Vimeo). [Verify: supported sources.]
Document / PDF: upload a file.
Text / article: write directly in the editor.
Live class: schedule a session (see step 5).
Quiz / assessment: see step 6.
Save each lesson. Repeat to build out your course.
You can drag to reorder sections and lessons. Start with a rough structure and refine it, you don't need it perfect on the first pass.
4. Set up a batch (for live or cohort-based courses)
Skip this step if your course is fully self-paced.
A batch is a group of learners going through the course together, usually on a schedule.
Go to Batches / Cohorts (or the batch section within the course). [Verify: location.]
Select Create batch.
Set the name, start and end dates, and capacity if relevant.
Link the batch to this course.
Save.
You'll enroll learners into the batch in the next article, Selling & Enrolling.
5. Schedule a live class (optional)
Go to Live Classes (or add a live lesson within the course).
Select Schedule / Create class.
Set the title, date, time, and duration: double-check the time zone.
Choose your video provider. [Verify: e.g. built-in / Zoom integration, confirm what's supported and whether Zoom must be connected in Settings first.]
Link it to the relevant course or batch, then save.
Learners will see the class on their dashboard and get a join link at the scheduled time.
6. Add a quiz or assessment (optional)
Add a quiz as a lesson, or go to [Verify: Assessments].
Choose the question types you need: multiple choice, true/false, etc. [Verify: supported types.]
Set the passing score, time limit, and whether attempts are limited. [Verify: options.]
Save and place it where you want it in the course.
A short "check your understanding" quiz at the end of each section boosts completion and gives learners a sense of progress.
7. Add a certificate (optional)
If you want learners to earn a certificate on completion:
Go to [Verify: Certificates].
Choose or design a template and add your logo/signature. [Verify: customization options.]
Set the completion criteria (e.g. finish all lessons, pass the final quiz).
Attach it to the course.
8. Preview and publish
Use Preview to see the course as a learner would. [Verify: preview option.]
Check that lessons play, documents open, and the structure reads well.
When ready, select Publish. [Verify: draft vs. published states and where the toggle is.]
A published course is visible on your site but won't be purchasable until you set pricing, that's the next article.
