Recovering Abandoned Carts
The Abandoned Cart module shows you who dropped off, but the actual recovery, reaching out to win the sale back, is done with Workflows and Segments. This article explains that path.
Why recovery lives elsewhere
The Abandoned Cart screen is a tracking report. It does not send messages. Edmingle handles recovery through its automation and audience tools so you can reach abandoners automatically and at scale.
Recover automatically with a Workflow
The fastest way to recover carts is an automated workflow.
- Go to Marketing → Workflows and create a new workflow.
- Choose the Abandoned Cart Reminders template. It comes pre-set to:
- Start when a learner visits checkout (the "Checkout Visited" signal).
- Exit when the learner enrolls (the "Course Enrolled" signal), so buyers stop receiving reminders.
- Add your steps: a wait, then a reminder message (email, WhatsApp, or push), and more waits and messages as needed.
- Activate the workflow.
From then on, learners who abandon checkout automatically enter the flow and receive your reminders until they purchase or the flow ends.
A simple, effective sequence is: wait a few hours, send a friendly reminder, wait a day, send a second nudge (optionally with a promo code). Set the exit on "Course Enrolled" so anyone who buys stops hearing from you.
Target abandoners with a Segment
If you would rather send a one-off campaign, build a segment of abandoners and message them.
- Go to Users → Segments and create a dynamic segment.
- Add the Abandoned Cart filter, choosing Learner In Abandoned Cart (for any course or specific courses).
- Save the segment, then use it as the audience of a Campaign.
You can also use Learner Not In Abandoned Cart to exclude abandoners from other messaging.
How recovery shows up
When a learner who abandoned later completes the purchase, their entry moves to the Completed view in the Abandoned Cart list (with a Completed On date). In a workflow, that same purchase is the conversion that exits them from the flow.
Putting it together
- Use the Abandoned Cart module to understand how much revenue is slipping and which courses abandon most.
- Use a Workflow for always-on, automated recovery.
- Use a Segment + Campaign for targeted, one-off pushes.
You're done
That completes the Abandoned Cart collection. You can now monitor incomplete checkouts, understand the value at risk, and recover sales through automated workflows and targeted segments.
