Setting Up AI Evaluation on an Assignment

To have AI grade a specific assignment, you enable it on that assignment and give the AI your rubric. This is done in the assignment editor, in the AI Evaluation section.

This section appears only when AI is enabled on your plan, and the switch works only when the AI Evaluation agent is turned on in Veda AI. If it is off, you will see a notice with a link to turn it on.

Turn it on for the assignment

Enable AI Evaluation in the assignment's AI Evaluation section. Veda then evaluates submissions against your rubrics and reference answers.

[!Important] Evaluations appear to you within 24 hours of submission and are not visible to learners unless you publish them. Only submissions in PDF, DOC, DOCX, or TXT are evaluated, and assignments submitted as drive links with no attached file are not evaluated.

Give the AI your rubric

  • Evaluation Instructions (optional): define the evaluation metrics and rubrics for this assignment (up to 500 characters of rich text). These guide how the AI scores each submission.
  • Answersheet (optional): upload a reference answer sheet (DOC, DOCX, PDF, or TXT, up to 10 MB).

Credits

AI Evaluation consumes AI credits, deducted for each page of a learner's submission. Long submissions cost more. Keep your AI credit balance topped up (see AI Credits).

Write instructions the way you would brief a new grader: list the criteria and their weight, and what earns or loses marks. Adding an answer sheet noticeably improves consistency.
