Targeting Your Audience & Tags

Who receives an announcement is set by its Target Audience, and you can classify announcements with custom field tags. This article covers both.

Choose a target audience

Target Audience (required) has two options:

  • All Learners: every learner receives the announcement.
  • Course Wise: only learners in the courses (batches) you select receive it.

Target Audience cannot be changed once the announcement is sent. Pick the right audience before sending; to reach a different group later, create a new announcement.

Selecting batches (Course Wise)

When you choose Course Wise, a Batches selector appears:

  1. Click the batch selector to open the batch drawer.

  2. Filter by course, search by batch name, and select the batches you want.

Select Batches dialog with search and filter options.
  3. Confirm. The selector then shows how many batches are selected and the total learner count, and each batch appears as a removable tag.

The ability to select multiple batches depends on your plan. On plans without multi-session support, the drawer lets you pick a single batch at a time (radio selection) instead of several (checkboxes).

Announcements are also sent to free enrolled learners of the selected batches, not just paid enrollments.

Custom field tagging

The Custom Field Tagging section lets you tag an announcement using your organization's custom fields. Tags support targeted visibility, filtering, and organization of your announcements.

  1. In Custom fields, select one or more custom fields.

  2. For each selected field, choose from its available values (checkboxes appear once a field is picked).

  3. Each selected field must have a value, or you will see a "can't be empty" message for that field.

To create or change the custom fields available here, use Manage Custom Fields, which takes you to the announcement custom fields settings.

Tags are most useful once you have many announcements. Use a consistent scheme (for example, a "Type" field with values like Schedule, Offer, Policy) so you can filter your list quickly later.
