Dynamic Segment Filters
Dynamic segments are defined by filter rules: learners who match are automatically included, and membership stays current. This article covers how the filter builder works and the full list of attributes you can filter on.
How the builder works
When creating or editing a dynamic segment, you add one or more filter rows:
- Click Add Filter and choose an attribute (for example, Sign Up or Course Progress).
- Depending on the attribute, choose a condition and a value (a date, a number, or specific courses, batches, and so on).
- Add more filters as needed. Remove a row with its remove icon.
Multiple filters always combine with AND: a learner must match every filter to be included. There is no OR option or filter grouping. Each attribute can be added once (already-used attributes disappear from the list).
Previewing the count
A Filtered Learners panel shows how many learners currently match.
[!Important] The count does not update automatically as you edit. Click the refresh icon to recalculate ("Click refresh to update"). Always refresh before saving to confirm your segment size.
The filter catalog
You can filter on the following attributes. Most offer conditions like dates (after, before, within, on), numeric comparisons (greater than, less than, equal to, in between), or specific-resource selection.
Signup and activity
- Sign Up: when a learner signed up, by specific date (after, before, within, on) or relative time (within the last N days/weeks/months).
- Last Seen: when a learner was last active, by specific date, relative time (within the last), or relative time (more than).
- Learner Status: Registered, Enrolled, or Archived.
- Learner Category: is in, or is not in, chosen categories.
Enrollment and courses
- Enrollment Status: for any course or specific courses, filter by Active, Expired, or Free Preview.
- Not Enrolled: learners not enrolled in any course or in specific courses.
- Number of Courses Enrolled In: greater than, less than, equal to, or in between.
- Enrolment Date: for any or specific courses, by any date, specific date, or relative time.
- Course Progress: for chosen courses, progress greater than, less than, equal to, or in between a percentage.
- Course Rating: for any or specific courses, rated (more than, less than, equal to a value) or not rated.
Payments and value
- Payment Status: for any or specific courses, cleared, or pending more than / less than / between an amount.
- Coupon Used: learners who used chosen coupons.
- Life Time Value: total value in a currency, greater than, less than, equal to, or in between.
- Abandoned Cart: learners in (any or specific course) or not in an abandoned cart.
Engagement, events, and attendance
- Certificate: issued (any or specific certificates, with a date qualifier) or not issued.
- Attendance Percentage: for a chosen batch, greater than, less than, or equal to a percentage.
- Missed Attendance: for any or specific batches, missed in the last X sessions (up to 20).
- Event Registration: registered or not registered for any or specific events.
- Event Attendance: attended or not attended any or specific events.
Community and membership
- Community Registration: member or not a member of any or a specific community.
- Membership: enrolled or not enrolled in any or specific memberships.
Custom
- Custom Field: match your own custom fields, with equals to, contains, greater than, lower than, or in between.
The exact attributes available can depend on your plan and configuration. If an attribute above is not in your list, it may not apply to your account.
Tips for good segments
Because filters are AND-only, keep each segment focused. To target two separate groups (for example, "enrolled" or "abandoned cart"), create two segments rather than trying to combine them in one. Refresh the count as you add filters so you can see each rule narrow the group.
