Automating Certificates & Notifications

Instead of issuing certificates by hand, you can have Edmingle issue them automatically when learners meet criteria you set, and notify learners when they are certified. This article covers both, configured in the template's Certificate Generation & Notifications section.

Turn on automation

In the template form, turn on Automate Certificate Generation. Certificates will then be issued automatically to learners who meet your criteria.

Enabling automation disables custom fields. Automated certificates cannot carry per-learner custom fields, so remove any custom fields first (you will be prompted if some are selected).

Automation is locked once the template is created. You cannot switch automation on or off, or change its criteria, when editing an existing template. Decide before you save.

Set the certification criteria

With automation on, choose what triggers a certificate under Certification Criteria. There are two types:

Courses

Certificates are issued when a learner completes course content to a set level.

Use Add Courses to add one or more courses.
For each course, set the Completion (%): the percentage of content a learner must complete.
Add as many courses as you need (duplicates are not allowed).

Exams

Certificates are issued when a learner passes chosen assessments.

Select the course.
Add any of: Add Online Exercise, Add Exam, or Add Mettl Assessment.
Passing the selected assessment(s) triggers the certificate.

At least one course (or one exam/exercise/assessment) is required, or you will be asked to add one.

Notify learners when certified

Turn on Notify learners when certified to alert learners automatically when they receive a certificate.

Notifications can go via WhatsApp and Email.
Use Edit message (WhatsApp) or Edit email to customize the "Certificate Awarded" templates.

Notifications are sent through the channels shown, and only when those channels are enabled for your account.

Manual vs automated recap

Automated: certificates issue themselves on criteria; no custom fields; settings lock in edit.
