Community Moderation

Community includes tools to keep spaces safe: automatic keyword flagging, a reported-messages queue, and learner banning. This article covers them. These are reached from the Community screen's alert menu.

How flagging works

A message can be flagged two ways:

  • Automatically, if it contains a banned keyword (set per community in settings) or a platform inappropriate word. Such messages are not posted and go to Reported Messages.
  • Manually, when a member reports another member's message.

Reported Messages

Open Reported Messages from the alert menu. The queue shows:

Settings page with Reported Messages tab selected.
  • Reported Learner, Reported On, Reason, Reported Message, Reported By (a learner or "System"), Status, and Actions.

Status is one of:

  • Under Review: awaiting a decision.
  • Dismissed: cleared and restored.
  • Flagged: removed from the community.

From a report's Actions (admin only):

  • Mark as Flagged: removes the message from the community; the learner who posted it is notified it was flagged.
  • Dismiss Report: restores the message to the community at its original post time.
  • Ban Member: bans the learner (see below).

Actions are contextual: you cannot re-flag an already-flagged message or re-dismiss a dismissed one.

Banning and unbanning learners

Banning is the strongest action.

  • Ban (from Reported Messages or from a community's member list) removes the learner from all communities and blocks them from joining new ones.
  • To reverse it, open Banned Learners from the alert menu and choose Unban (Reactivate). The learner regains access to the communities they were removed from and can join new ones.

The Banned Learners page lists banned learners with their report counts and who banned them.

Banning affects every community, not just the one where the message appeared. Use it for repeat or serious offenders, and rely on Mark as Flagged for one-off problem messages.

Banned keywords

Set per community in its settings, banned keywords automatically flag matching messages so they never post. Keep the list current for your audience; it works alongside the platform's built-in inappropriate-words list.

What's next

To manage the communities themselves, continue to Managing Communities (List & Archive).
