Enabling & Creating a Community
Before learners can use community, the module must be active. Then you create one or more communities. This article covers both.
Turn on the Community module
Go to Engage → Community.

Open the settings (gear) and choose Community Module Settings.
Set Community Status to Active. Activating shows the community module to learners on web and app.
Save with Save Changes.
The module toggle requires manage-write permission. If you are just setting up, keep it active so learners can see the communities you publish.
Create a community
On the Community screen, click New Community (or Create a Community on the empty-state screen).

Fill in the form.
Basic Details
- Community Name (required): the name learners see, up to 50 characters. Use letters, numbers, spaces, and hyphens; it must start and end with a letter or number.
- Description (optional): up to 200 characters.
- Community Image (optional): a PNG or JPEG, up to 2MB, recommended 256 x 256.
Community Settings & Guidelines
- Make this Global Community (optional): turn on to make this a single community for all learners, past and present.
- Community Layout (required):
- Message Layout: chat-style conversations.
- Feed Layout: a scrolling feed of posts.
- Community Guidelines (optional): rich-text rules shown to members.
- Click Create Community.
If you have reached your plan's limit of custom communities, clicking create prompts you to contact support to add more. Batch-linked communities do not count against this limit.
Batch-linked communities
You can also create a community straight from a batch:
- When creating or editing a batch, open Batch Community Access.
- Turn on Enable Community for this Batch.
- Set the Community Name, Description, Community Guidelines, and Community Image.
All learners added to the batch automatically become members of this community.
Batch-linked communities always use the Message layout; the Feed layout is not available for them.
