Managing Community Members

This article covers who is in a community: viewing members, adding them, and removing or banning them.

View members

Open a community and go to Manage Members. The list shows each member with:

  • Name
  • Joined On
  • Role (their platform role, such as Admin, Instructor, or Learner)
  • Posts/Replies Count
  • Actions

Search to find a specific member.

The Role column reflects a member's platform role, not a community-specific role. The only community-specific role is Community Manager, assigned in the community's settings.

Add members

Click Add Members. There are two ways:

  • Add Manually from a Batch: filter by course, batch, and date (and category, if enabled), then select the learners to add.

Add Members page with Filters button highlighted.
  • Upload learners: upload a file (.xls, .xlsx, or .csv, up to 5MB). Download the sample file, fill it in, remove any extra columns, then upload. Large files are queued under your scheduled tasks.

Add Members page with file upload option for CSV/XLS files.

There is no join-request or approval flow. Members are added by you (or auto-added when a batch community is enabled), not by requesting to join.

Remove a member

From a member's Actions menu (admin only), choose Remove Member and confirm. The removed learner can no longer access that community. They can be added again later.

Manage Members page with Remove Member option highlighted.

Ban a member

Banning is stronger than removing. From the Actions menu (admin only), choose Ban Member and confirm.

Banning removes the learner from all communities and prevents them from joining any new ones. You can unban them later from the Banned Learners page, and they are automatically re-added to the communities they were previously in. (See Community Moderation.)

View a member's profile

Choose View Profile from the Actions menu to open the learner's or team member's profile.
