Creating a Question Bank
This article covers creating a bank from the Question Bank list. You can also create one directly inside an online exercise, which is covered in Using Question Banks in Online Exercises.
Create the bank
- Go to Learning → Question Bank.
- Click New Question Bank. A drawer opens titled Create Question Bank.
- Fill in the fields:
| Field | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Name | Yes | Up to 50 characters, with a live counter. Placeholder: "Enter question bank name" |
| Exam | Yes | Search and select an exam. Type a name that does not exist and press Enter to create it |
| Subject | Yes | Disabled until you pick an exam. Also accepts a new name |
| Topic | Yes | Disabled until you pick a subject. Also accepts a new name |
| Difficulty | Yes | Easy, Medium, or Hard. Defaults to Easy |
| Short Description | No | A note for your own reference |
- Click Add Question Bank.
You will see "Question bank created successfully".
All fields except the short description are required. If anything is missing you will see "Please enter all the required fields".
Naming banks well
The bank name is internal. Learners never see it, so name it for the person who will be building papers, not for the learner.
A name that repeats the taxonomy and difficulty is the most useful, for example "Physics / Thermodynamics / Medium / Set 2". When you are linking six banks into one exercise section, that is what tells them apart in the picker.
Add questions now or later
After saving you will see a Question Bank Created window: "You have successfully created the Question Bank - "{name}". Would you like to add questions to the bank now?"
- Add Questions Now opens the bank so you can start adding.
- Maybe Later returns you to the list.
Editing a bank
From the Question Bank list, open a bank's Actions menu and choose Edit Question Bank. The same drawer reopens with the title Update Question Bank and a button reading Update Question Bank. On save you see "Question bank details updated successfully".
Changing a bank's Difficulty or Topic changes how it is labelled and filtered, but it does not change the difficulty already stored on questions inside it. Questions keep the difficulty they were saved with.
