Generating Questions with AI
If AI content generation is enabled for your organization, you can have Veda draft a set of questions for a bank instead of writing them by hand.
Before you start
The Generate with AI button appears on a question bank only when the Content Agent and its question generator are enabled in your Veda AI settings. If you only see Add Question, the feature is not switched on for your organization.
The bank also needs a Topic. If it does not have one you will see "Question bank topic is not set".
Generate a set of questions
- Open the bank and click Generate with AI. A drawer opens titled Generate Questions with AI, with three steps: Configure, Review, and Generate.
- Set up the request:
| Setting | Notes |
|---|---|
| Prompt / Instructions | Required. "Enter the topics or context around which the questions are to be generated" |
| Difficulty | Easy, Medium, Hard, or Mixed |
| Number of Questions | Between 3 and 15. Defaults to 5 |
| Marks per Question | Between 1 and 10. Defaults to 1 |
| Type of Questions | Pick one or more: MCQ single correct, MCQ multiple correct, True/False, short answer, fill in the blanks |
| Add Hints | Generates a hint for each question |
| Add Explanations | Generates an explanation for each answer |
| Attach Reference Materials | Point the generator at your own content so questions come from your material rather than general knowledge |
- Click Continue, then Generate {n} Questions.
- Review what came back. You can Regenerate All, go back with Adjust settings, or accept them.
- Click Add to Question Bank to save them.
You will see "Questions generated successfully".
Attaching reference materials is what makes the difference between generic questions and questions about your course. Without them the generator works from general knowledge of the topic.
[!Important] Always read generated questions before you use them in a graded test. Check the answer key in particular. Generated questions land in the bank as normal questions, so you can edit any of them afterwards exactly as if you had written them.
After generating
Generated questions behave like any other question in the bank: they are editable, deletable, and carry the marks you set. Because the bank is linked live to your exercises, they become available in every exercise using that bank straight away.
