Grading Assignments
Assignments are file-and-comment submissions. This article covers reviewing one, leaving feedback, awarding marks, and the optional AI auto-evaluation.
Open an assignment for review
From the Submissions list, click Review on an assignment row. The Review Assignment screen opens, showing the assignment name and summary cards: the Learner Name, Submitted On (with an On Time or Late tag), Status (Evaluated or Not Evaluated), and Marks (shown as mark out of the maximum, with Pass or Fail).
Review the submission
- The learner's uploaded file is shown in a viewer. Images, PDFs, audio, and video preview inline; other file types (such as zip, doc, or docx) cannot preview, so use Download to open them.
- If the learner attached no file, you will see a "Comment-only submission" note, and their comment appears in the feedback panel.
The Learner Feedback panel on the right shows the learner's comment and, once you respond, your tutor comment and any files you upload.
Award marks and leave feedback
- Choose + Add Marks (or Edit to change an existing mark).
- In the Add Marks (or Edit Marks) dialog:
- Marks: enter the score. It is capped at the assessment's maximum, shown as "Out of N marks".
- Comments (optional): rich-text feedback for the learner.
- Upload tutor reviewed file (optional): attach a marked-up file. Supported formats are PDF, JPEG, JPG, PNG, ZIP, WEBP, XLS, and XLSX, up to 200 MB. Upload a single file; zip multiple files together if needed.
- Save with Save Marks (or Update Marks).
Mark as evaluated

Use Mark as Evaluated in the header to finalize the grade. You can switch it back with Mark as Not Evaluated.
[!Important] You cannot edit marks while a submission is evaluated. The edit option is disabled with the note "Mark as not evaluated to edit marks". To change a grade, set the submission back to Not Evaluated, edit, then evaluate again.
View assignment details
Use View Details to open a panel showing the assignment name, the uploaded assignment file(s), and the general instructions, useful context while grading.
AI auto-evaluation (if enabled)
If AI evaluation is enabled for your account and turned on for the assignment, an AI can pre-evaluate submissions.
- A status pill shows Queued, In Progress, or View AI Evaluation as it processes.
- Open View AI Evaluation (Auto-Evaluate with AI) to see AI Remarks: an Overview, What was good, and What went wrong, which you can edit.
- The drawer shows an AI Suggested Score, which you can adjust before saving with Save AI Review.
The AI suggests a score and remarks; you stay in control. Review and edit before saving, and note that the same evaluated-lock applies (mark as not evaluated first to change a saved AI review).
