Introduction to Promo Codes

Promo codes are discount coupons your learners apply at checkout to get money off a course or membership. This article explains the types of code and the key concepts before you create one.

Where promo codes live

Promo codes sit under Marketing → Promo Codes in the left-hand menu.

Promo Codes list with filter and create options.

Two types of code

When you create a code, you choose one of two types:

  • Multiple Use: a single code that many learners can use multiple times (for example, LAUNCH20). Best for public promotions.
  • Single Use: one-time codes. You provide a prefix and a quantity, and the platform generates that many unique codes, each usable once. Best for individual offers or giveaways.

How the discount works

  • Discounts are percentage-based (for example, 20% off). There is no flat or fixed-amount discount.
  • You can set a maximum discount amount so a percentage discount never exceeds a set cap.
  • Discounts are configured per currency, so international learners get an appropriate cap.

What a code applies to

A promo code applies to the specific courses and/or memberships you choose, scoped to the branches where those are published. There is no "applies to everything" option; you always select what it covers.

For memberships, a promo code discounts only the initial charge, not recurring renewals, and applies only to non-auto-payment plans.

Validity and status

  • Every code has a start date and expiry date.
  • Status is Active or Expired, and it is determined automatically by the dates. There is no manual enable/disable toggle; a code becomes Expired when its end date passes.

Usage limits

For multiple-use codes you can cap usage:

  • System wide: a maximum number of total redemptions across all learners.
  • User wide: a maximum number of redemptions per learner.

Permissions

Promo codes are permission-gated (no specific plan is required):

  • View codes: promo code read access.
  • Create, edit, duplicate, and export: promo code write access.
  • Usage reports use a separate reports permission.

Admins have full access. Create and action buttons are hidden without write access.
