Introduction to Promotional Templates
Promotional templates are the reusable messages, across Email, WhatsApp, SMS, and Push, that your campaigns and workflows send. You build a template once here, then select it when you send. This article explains the essentials.
Where promotional templates live
They sit under Marketing → Promotional Templates in the left-hand menu.
The four channels
You can create templates for:
- SMS
- Push notifications
Each channel has its own builder suited to its format (for example, an email has a subject line; SMS shows a character count).
Promotional vs system templates
There are two families of template, and this module covers only one:
- Promotional templates (this module): marketing messages used by Campaigns and Workflows.
- System templates: transactional notifications (enrollment confirmations, reminders, and so on), managed separately under Settings.
Keep the distinction in mind: templates you create here are for marketing. Automatic transactional messages are configured under Settings, not here.
Where templates are used
A promotional template becomes selectable when you build:
- A Campaign (choose a template for the campaign's channel).
- A Workflow message step.
You can also create a template on the fly from inside a campaign or workflow using their "Add Template" option, which opens the same builder.
Integrations you need
Because these send real messages, most channels require a connected promotional integration:
- Email: an integration is required.
- WhatsApp: an integration is required.
- SMS: an integration is optional.
- Push: no separate integration selector.
If a channel's integration is missing, you will be prompted to set it up in settings.
Permissions
- View templates: template read access.
- Create and edit: template write access.
Admins have full access. Add and edit actions are hidden without write access.
What's next
